How to Teach IELTS

The “How to Teach IELTS” training is an intensive 48-hour program that prepares educators with the expertise and strategies required to successfully prepare students for the IELTS exam.   • Strategies for flow-chart and table completion, and sentence ending tasks (2 hours)

Course Goals and Overview

The “How to Teach IELTS” course is an immersive training program aimed at providing educators with the critical tools and knowledge necessary to effectively teach the IELTS. Spanning ten days, the program addresses all four key sections of the IELTS exam: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.

Participants will gain a comprehensive insight into the exam’s purpose, structure, and evaluation criteria. The course explores targeted teaching methods and proven strategies that will help teachers lead their students to success in IELTS preparation.

Course Kickoff

The course begins with a thorough introduction to IELTS, offering a detailed overview of the exam and its various components. Participants will review real IELTS tasks to better understand the challenges students face. Through discussions and group activities, participants will build a strong foundation for the rest of the course.

Reading Section:

The next focus is the Reading section of the IELTS exam. Participants will explore essential sub-skills and strategies that enhance reading comprehension. They will become familiar with different reading tasks, such as matching headings, information, features, sentence endings, identifying information, multiple-choice questions, list selection, summaries, short answers, flowchart completion, table completion, and sentence completion. Interactive exercises will help participants gain a deep understanding of these tasks and learn effective teaching methods.

Strengthening Listening Skills:

Following that, the Listening section is tackled. Participants will learn how to effectively teach listening comprehension across all four sections of the exam. They will explore the distinct challenges each section presents and will practice strategies that help students improve their listening performance. Through interactive activities, participants will sharpen their listening abilities while enhancing their teaching techniques.

Writing Section

The Writing section is covered in-depth, providing participants with a full grasp of the evaluation standards. They will explore both the General Training and Academic modules, concentrating on Task 1 and Task 2. The training will guide them on how to teach the distinct expectations, skills, and strategies required for each task, such as essay organization, clarity, content, and language usage. Different essay formats and methods will be studied through interactive activities and practice sessions.

Speaking section

The final part of the course will cover the Speaking section. Participants will be equipped with the tools needed to teach speaking skills effectively, including an understanding of the assessment rubric. They will explore Speaking Tasks 1, 2, and 3, focusing on idea generation, response organization, and example analysis. Interactive activities will help participants refine their speaking skills and gain expertise in guiding their students.
